William (Bill)'s Story
SPECIAL NOTE:
Some people will remember my sister Susan; she was five years younger than myself. She passed away Sept. 11 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She had been fighting the various cancers and was holding her own, but had issues out of the blue about a week ago, and then died within a few days.
Bill...Sept. 14/16
Attended Levack District from grades 9-11, then our family moved to Sudbury where I went to LaSalle for grades 12 and 13.
1975 to 1979 at Laurentian University.
1979- 2002: worked in retail management, moving a lot throughout Southern Ontario. Spent a few years in Sault Ste. Marie, too (nice city). Eventually down- sized out of a job, took a "package", and returned to Sudbury.
2002- 2004: packed a lifetime of broken bones and illnesses into parts of 3 years, ranging from freak falls to car crashes to rare but not- really- dangerous illnesses.
2005- 2008 : working in Sudbury at an inbound call center....the 3 year hex of illness/ injury is long gone and everything is back to normal.
2012: still in Sudbury and at the same job...had 3 months off last spring for a knee replacement, and it was a huge success... can't dance yet, but never could even with 2 good knees so no loss....keep 4 big concert history projects on the go on yahoo: The Guess Who, Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman/ BTO, and The Stampeders, and the research/ updating of them keeps me pretty busy....good buddy Sammy the pussycat died in late February...waiting til fall for a replacement or maybe two, to be company for each other.....finally into an exercise regemin and walk a lot at Bell Park, mostly on weekends. Was losing too much weight so backed off a bit...would have been too expensive to replace all my clothes. Thin may be in but fat is where it's at.
Took on a new job before the old one closed up, and happy at the new job. Better job in all respects, and after working 7 1/2 years of evenings, now have a weekday 9-5 job (and loving the hours). Kinda neat to work steady days, Monday to Friday, after so many years of the afternoon shift; I actually have a life!. It was such a wet fall, I did not walk as much in Bell Park, and have lost my stamina. Trying to ramp up the walking again, and hoping the weather co- operates.
Early 2013: kinda nice having a day job, Monday to Friday, 9-5. Doing a bit more walking and anxiously counting the days til spring.
Oct 2013: Back working an earlier late shift (1 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and looking forward to Christmas. I love Christmas but the snow can go right after it is...Expand for more

May 30, 2015: nearly 3 years at the current job, and still loving it. Nice job. More challenging than the call center job, but pays much better. Now work mostly 10- 6 but my schedule does adjust here and there a bit to suit business needs. Hard to believe I am six years away from retiring.
Have finally gotten a new cat, actually a kitten. She is mostly bengal, so she is a climber and a jumper, and even though nearly a year and a half old, very much a kitten. Never stops talking her jibberish cat language.She is a smaller cat than old Sammy was but the bengal females are smaller.
Spend a lot of time taking pictures. Got my first "real" digital camera (I used a wee Kodak for a couple of years)2 years ago, and wore it out in a year. Got a new digital last year and use it a lot. Will likely wear it out by next year, and upgrade to a higher level model. (I have used Canon camera's for over 30 years.)
Every so often, you hear of a former class mate dying. Makes you appreciate that you are still above the ground.
September 27, 2015- Molly the mini kitten has joined our family today. She is tiny! One of my co- workers looked after her for a few weeks, until I could take her, and Molly made such a strong impression with them, they had a hard time giving her up to me.
February 25/16- It is official: I will get my knee replacement by summer. This will be my second one; first one done about 5 years ago. First one went very well.
My kittens, Sassy and Molly bring me great joy....Sassy has such a sweet personality, while Molly is still a kitten and is constantly into trouble. I call her my religious kitty because she is a Holy Terror.
July 12/16- Got my other knee replaced July 4/16. Only spent 2 days in the hospital this time around. Will be 3-4 months healing; hope to be allowed to drive next month. Still early on, in the recovery, as I do not even start physio til next week, and stitches out next Wednesday.
Aug 11/16- ok, just over 5 weeks with the new knee, and the recovery is going well. Specialist is happy with the progress, and I do not have to see him anymore. Physiotherapy is coming along well and will likely only need a couple more sessions. Can start driving again as of August 29. Physiotherapist has been preaching patience- sometimes I try to do too much and go for too much progress... we are slowing down. Mother nature needs time to heal my body and it will be late October before I go back to work. Looking forward to being able to drive again, so I can get some rehab walking done in Bell Park.
